Nestled in the heart of the Golden State, Chico is known for its rich history, including the famous Bidwell Park, one of the largest municipal parks in the United States. At PickleballChico.com, we celebrate this unique combination, offering residents and visitors alike a chance to enjoy pickleball amidst the backdrop of Chico's historic landmarks and natural beauty.

Pickleball in Chico, California

Chico has two substantial pickleball hubs. CARD Community Park has eight dedicated outdoor courts and an established local community with daily open play. Dill Dinkers Chico adds 11 climate-controlled indoor courts, scheduled open play, clinics, lessons, and reservations. Beginners also have unusually good options: CARD runs beginner clinics and leagues, and the Chico Pickleball community welcomes new players during its public-court sessions.

If you are arriving alone, Community Park is a practical free outdoor starting point because regular players gather there. Choose Dill Dinkers when you want a scheduled indoor session, skill-specific play, or a court reservation.

Where to Play Pickleball in Chico

  • CARD Community Park, 1900 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway. Chico Area Recreation and Park District converted two former tennis courts into eight dedicated pickleball courts in 2023. The courts are public and are also used for CARD leagues, clinics, classes, and tournaments. Chico Pickleball identifies Community Park as its regular gathering place and reports open play every day. This makes the park useful for a solo player looking for games, not simply someone arriving with a foursome. Check court conditions before traveling because weather, air quality, tournaments, and CARD programming can affect availability. Check CARD pickleball information and Chico Pickleball community information.
  • Dill Dinkers Chico, 424 Otterson Drive, Suite 160. This indoor club has 11 climate-controlled pickleball courts and is open to both members and visitors. Programming includes all-level and skill-specific open play, private court reservations, clinics, lessons, drills, leagues, tournaments, and other events. Players register through the Dill Dinkers reservation system, and visitor rates vary by session. The club is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Check Dill Dinkers Chico's current schedule and reservations.

New to Pickleball?

Start with CARD if you want structured beginner instruction. CARD currently runs Beginner Pickleball Clinics for adults age 18 and older. The clinics cover fundamentals, strategy, drills, and match play. Balls are provided, and loaner paddles are available while supplies last. CARD also offers Beginner Pickleball Leagues for players around the 2.0 to 3.0 level who already understand scoring and basic rules. Check current CARD beginner clinic sessions.

For a free community introduction, try Community Park. Chico Pickleball encourages new players to come to the courts during open play and introduce themselves. The group recommends later morning, around 10:30 AM or afterward, as a useful time to ask experienced players for help with the basics. Community volunteers also provide informal assistance and free clinic-style help when available. This is community-organized help rather than a guaranteed CARD instructional session. Read Chico Pickleball's guidance for new players.

For indoor instruction, use Dill Dinkers. The Chico club offers private and group lessons for all skill levels with certified instructors, including coaching specifically suited to beginners. Its calendar also includes drills and clinics that can be booked individually. Check current Dill Dinkers lessons and clinics.

Open Play, Leagues, and Pickleball Events

CARD has more organized pickleball activity than a simple public-court listing suggests. Its current adult sports program includes Beginner Pickleball Leagues, Beginner Pickleball Clinics, adult pickleball classes, and a Fall Pickleball Ladder League. League registration, schedules, and standings change by season, so use the current CARD adult sports listings.

Community Park also hosts the Chico Classic Pickleball Tournament. Chico Pickleball held the eighth annual tournament there in 2026, making the park an established location for both everyday community play and organized competition. Check Chico Pickleball for current community events.

Dill Dinkers maintains a live calendar of open play, drills, clinics, leagues, tournaments, and special events. Open-play sessions include all-level and skill-specific options, so check the current rating or level requirement before registering. View current Dill Dinkers Chico activities.

Visiting Chico and Looking for a Game?

For free outdoor community play, start at CARD Community Park. Chico Pickleball reports open play every day, and its guidance specifically invites newcomers to introduce themselves at the courts. If you are new to the game, later morning is a useful time to visit because the community recommends asking for beginner help after about 10:30 AM. Check CARD's court-status page when weather, heat, smoke, or another event could affect play.

For a more predictable indoor plan, use Dill Dinkers Chico. Visitors do not need a membership to participate in many activities. Choose an appropriate open-play session from the live schedule, register before arrival, and check in at the club. Open play rotates players through games, so you can sign up without bringing a partner.

If your visit is specifically for a tournament, league, or CARD clinic, register before traveling. Community Park's eight courts are used for both public play and scheduled programs, so organized activity can affect ordinary court availability.
